front porch neighbors

some birds have built their nest right outside our front door. i constantly forget this and every time i open the front door a bird flies away and startles me! yesterday i found a half egg shell lying on the porch, so i guess there are now baby birds there! it's pretty cool

strange place for a house

i went hiking today around a reservoir in charlottesville, and at one point in the hike we came across this-

yes, that is a little house built on a bunch of rocks in the water. very strange. plus you could see in the back window that there was some sort of crank wheel inside. it reminded me of either the tv show lost (jacob's cabin + wheel crank) or a scene from the movie 'lemony snicket's a series of unfortunate events' (a very strange movie but in it there's a scene where their house gets pulled away from the pier). we tried to think up why it was built like this, but didn't have much success- what do you think?

touch lamp fright

last night i got up to go to the bathroom at 2:30 and when i came back into my room my touch lamp was on. now i definitely did not turn it on before i left because it's all the way across the room. i stood frozen in the door frame for a minute, trying to figure out all the places a grown person could be hiding in my room. first i checked behind the door, then i walked across the room and grabbed my guitar stand. first i banged on the person looking shape my comforter had made when i got out of it, then poked in the dark places in my closet, under my bed, and behind my bed. luckily there was no one there! (i don't know what i had done if i had actually poked a person!) my only thought is that a bug or something landed on the lamp while i was in the bathroom. still...very weird.

the bear is back

so last summer a bear moved into the neighborhood for a while. well, the bear is back! the other day when my folks got up they found our bird feeder knocked down and our trash can knocked over and trash spread everywhere. and apparently trash cans all over the street had been rifled through.

startled x3

so i got off of work a little bit early today and decided to go into old navy to see what clothes they had on sale. as i walked in i felt like someone was standing right behind me but as i quickly turned around i realized it was just one of those creepy mannequins with no heads. then later i bent down to try on a pair of shoes and was startled by a figure "standing" over me. a person? nope...another headless mannequin! this one on a table. finally as i headed to leave i turned a corner and jumped again at the site of a mannequin! man three times in one trip! i'd hate to see how afraid i'd be if someone was actually following me. although those old navy figures are pretty scary i must say.
